The AAFP rolled-out a renewed advocacy push for permanent Medicare payment reform on Wednesday. The AAFP and the NCAFP are urging all members to contact their Congressional representatives and senators in Washington via the AAFP's Speak Out {{links to: http://www.capwiz.com/aafp/issues/alert/?alertid=60228506&type=CO }} tool to express their support. Since 2002, Congressional intervention has been needed to avert significant reductions in the Medicare payment rate as calculated by the flawed SGR formula. Cumulatively, the Medicare rate cut now needed stands at a combined 27.4%. In late December 2011, Congress passed legislation that forestalled this rate cut until March 1st, 2012. Legislation postponing the cut for a longer period of time is being considered by a House/Senate conference committee. Tell Congress to repeal this flawed formula once and for all. The NCAFP will continue to monitor developments on the progress and provide information as appropriate.
