Scholarships, Loans & Funding Programs

The North Carolina Academy provides a number of funding options to medical student members interested in the family medicine specialty. Each of the programs listed below are available to NC-based medical students only. NCAFP Foundation Loan/Scholarship Program -

The North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians Foundation provides scholarships of up to $2,000 to North Carolina-based medical students seeking a career as a family physician. All applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee and approval is based on financial need and sincere interest in the specialty of family medicine. Applications for disbursement for the 2012-2013 school year must be postmarked, faxed or e-mailed by Monday, May 7, 2012. No exceptions will be made.

Travel Scholarships & Funding

NCAFP Travel Scholarships & Funding -

The NCAFP provides funding to each North Carolina FMIG to help students offset travel expenses for attendance at the NCAFP Annual Winter Meeting in Asheville, NC, and for attending the annual AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Resident & Medical Students in Kansas City, MO. Students are advised to contact their school's FMIG Faculty Advisor for additional information.

These scholarships provide funding for students to attend the annual conference sponsored by the AAFP. The National Conference is always an excellent event that provides medical students with the opportunity to meet hundreds of medical students and residency programs from around the country! James G. Jones, MD Student Health Policy Leadership Program

This program provides funds for a medical student to attend the Political Leadership Institute (PLI) sponsored by the American Medical Student Association. Will support travel expenses and cover miscellaneous expenses of attending PLI. Interested medical students should contact their state chapter to apply.
